One of the greatest things about family is seeing a new generation bond together. I got to work with a great family recently, Mom & Dad, their two daughters and families. I spent a little extra time with each child, all at different ages and stages. Such fun personalities! I'm glad they decided to get photos of them at this age- moments frozen in time.
Recently I had a session with a senior girl, and her parents asked if they could take a family portrait with her as well. They had not had a family portrait taken since the girl was a toddler! I am really surprised at how often I hear this. It's something you do when the kids are little, but as they get older, it gets put off, or not done for whatever reason. Kids grow and change so much every year and I think it's important to catch them at each stage. After all, how else will you be able to tease the little darlings once they get older and bring home their first boyfriend/girlfriend home?
Here are some favorites from a fun family session I did recently. Mom and Dad here are old friends of mine, and they have two of the cutest little boys ever! It is so neat to see how much they remind me of their dad. Little mini-me's. Love it.
I came across a great blog for Photographers today called The Savvy Photographer. Oh my gosh, what a great Blog! I think I will be spending a lot of time there! In one post they shared inspirations for a variety of different work spaces. I couldn't believe it when I read that all the items they showed came from TARGET! Who knew you could get so many neat things through Target's online store? I loved this beachy office- so lovely- and that chair! I really need to own that chair. Could you imagine the images I could get using that as a prop? Yes, a girl can dream. Anyway, I am sharing this blog with you in hopes it will provide inspiration to you too. Enjoy! www.thesavvyphotographer.blogspot.com

I have to say, this summer has made me feel really old! Ha! I have worked with a hand full of girls I have known since itty bitty-ness. To see them all grown up and entering their senior year in High School is really something. As I was editing these images of Lauren, I had a really clear memory of her as a little girl. We were driving somewhere (can't remember where), and she and I were in the back seat. She must have been about 4 or 5? I was trying to keep her entertained, so I told her a story I made up on the spot. I can't remember specifics of the story, but I do recall it involved lots of pretty shoes and I had her giggling like crazy. Such a random memory; one that I'm sure she doesn't share; but it is meaningful to me. Why? It was the first time I remember feeling like I would make a really good mom someday. All these years later, I can still make up a great story in a moments notice. And I think I turned out to be a pretty darn good mom too...
I had such a great time working with the lovely Shelby. These images were taken as we walked around her families farm, which has been owned by her family for generations. There was so many great spots to shoot and the light was beautiful. I was really impressed with Shelby, such a bright girl and so sweet. I know her future possibilities are endless!
I have a nephew! His name is Saavan (pronounced Sah-vin) and he is just as cute as can be. I had the honor of being in the delivery room to photograph his birth. It was truly one of the most amazing things I have ever been witness to (aside from the birth of my own children). It was so different than my experience, and so interesting to be on the other side of things. It was a long night in labor and delivery, and when he finally arrived it was raining outside. That is when his Mom and Dad knew the name they had chosen for him was perfect- it signifies the rainy season in India. I feel forever bonded to this little soul now, what a blessing.
I have known this darling girl since she was a baby and was totally thrilled when her mom asked me to photograph her recently. She has become such a sweet young lady, beautiful inside and out. Recently she gave my daughter a whole bag full of Polly Pockets that she no longer plays with and just lit up her world. Lilly now spends hours playing with those things, changing their outfits and creating their fantasy lives. It reminds me so much of the way I played with my dolls as a girl. Working with Emily during this session made me all too aware how quickly time passes. Before you know it, I will be watching my own little girl blossom into a teenager. Sighhhh....
My personal favorite- I just LOVE it!
For some reason, she reminds me of a young Olivia Newton-John in this one.

I recently had the pleasure of photographing this darling baby girl. She was pre-mature at birth and is doing great. She's growing big and strong as my daughter would say! I love these pictures of her sweet, sleepy face and pouty lips. Oh- could you just snuggle her up??
